Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) along with PMC contractor Engineers India Limited (EIL) and licensor Air Liquide Global E&C Solutions is installing a Propylene Derivatives Petrochemical Complex at Kochi refinery with a capacity of 250 TMT polymer grade propylene to produce products such as Acrylic acid, Oxo-alcohols, and Acrylates. Mechanical completion of the PDPP unit is about to take place. The following contractors were involved in the project: trays internal and packaging for Propanediol (PDO) unit was awarded to K P S Engineering Company; supply, fabrication, and installation of the caustic deep tank was awarded to Finetech Engineers; miscellaneous mechanical works related with commissioning works was awarded to TESS Engineering Co. Ltd.; execution of residual unit-2 and mechanical work for the oxo-alcohol unit to K.K Anilkumar Engg.; structural modification and piping work for Propanediol (PDO) unit was awarded to Brothers engineering Contractor; PDPP drum plant work was awarded to Prayaga Engineering Constructors; residual structural work for offsite and utilities was awarded to Paulose George Construction Company (P) Ltd.; laying of acrylic acid line and associated facilities was awarded to JRK Engineers and Contractors. The project is continuing to face delays for the consecutive 6th time due to delay in commissioning of the Oxo-alcohol unit. The reason for this being delay resulting from the pandemic and work resumed only in September-2020. But start-up has been slow post-pandemic. The delay has also lead to an increase in cost by 14.5 percent from Rs 4588 crore to Rs 5246 crore. Meanwhile, pre-commissioning activities for all three units had been completed. Now the project is rescheduled for commissioning from Q2:2020 to March-2021.

The project will commission in March-2021.
